Born on March 24, 1987, in the Magura district of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan, popularly known as Faisal in his family, was a highly intelligent and clever boy.
His father, a talented football player, hoped his son would follow in his footsteps, but Shakib had other interests.
From a young age, Shakib demonstrated his cricketing abilities and earned money playing for different villages. During one match, an impressed umpire arranged for him to practice with the Islampur Para Club, a team in the Magura Cricket League.

Shakib's aggressive batting and fast bowling impressed his team, but it was his experimentation with spin bowling that proved most effective as he picked up a wicket with his very first ball.
He trained for six months at the Bangladesh Krira Shiksha Pratisthan, a government-run sports institute, before embarking on his early international career.
In 2005, during a tri-nation tournament involving England and Sri Lanka's Under-19 teams, Shakib scored a century and took three wickets in the final to help his team to victory.
Between 2005 and 2006, Shakib played 18 youth One Day Internationals, scoring 563 runs at an average of 35.18 and taking 22 wickets at an average of 20.18.
Shakib made his international debut against Zimbabwe in 2006 and quickly became a regular member of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, impressed with his consistency and reliability with both bat and ball.
His achievements have been numerous, and in 2009 he was named the number-one ODI all-rounder. He was also named the Wisden Cricketer of the Year that same year, becoming the first Bangladeshi to earn the distinction.
Under Shakib's captaincy, Bangladesh has achieved significant victories, including defeating the West Indies, whitewashing New Zealand, and overcoming cricket powerhouses. In 2012, he became the number one Test all-rounder in World Cricket, cementing his status as one of the greatest cricketers in the game.
